He enslaved all of Theo's people, forced her to bow and scrape to him, continuously shamed her, alienated her, and so forth. The Kaiser's actions were definitely antagonist-worthy. Unfortunately, Gibson chooses to sidestep rather than truly resolve their prior misunderstandings. Their past creates the perfect amount of present tension. And the relationship between hero and heroine has sufficient sizzle, striking a perfect balance between their adult attraction and their history. She had a lot of pressure on her to be the perfect daughter, which Gibson conveys quite well. When pretty hairdresser Delaney Shaw returned home to Truly, Idaho, for the reading of her stepfathers will, she planned on paying her respects and getting out of town. Of course this throws her together with Nick, and of course attraction ensues. Now she's back for the reading of her stepfather's will, and if she wants her inheritance she needs to stay in town for a year. Basic premise? Delaney left town after her parents caught her in a compromising position with the town bad boy, Nick, who just so happens to be her stepfather's illegitimate son. Gibson's story has great pacing, a believable plot, and likeable characters. If you love "prodigal daughter" romance novels, then you'll enjoy this book.
